This morning when I woke up, light was shining through the hatch. Usually the crew on watch comes to wake me up and it is still dark outside. Did someone forget to wake me up? On my way to the galley, I stopped at the nav-station and looked at the monitors. The wind was blowing at 30 knots! It had been like that since early in the morning and since we cannot have the dinghy in the water in those conditions, they let me sleep in.
The winds never really decreased during the day, so I could not swim. I spent the day sleeping and eating.
We had a call with WRI, our weather forecaster and router, to discuss what we should expect in the weeks to come. Since we are now nearing the end of the Kuroshio, our course will be mostly determined by the position of the low pressure systems, direction of the wind and temperature of the water and less by the currents which will be slow and change on a daily basis. We have been advised to progress east at a 30 degree North latitude to stay as much south of the low pressure systems as possible but no too south to avoid the trade winds that will be blowing against us.
The weather and the current have been big factors in our ability to progress but in the near future, weather conditions are going to be the driving forces.

It’s awesome how technology helps your Team to forge the path ahead in terms of currents and weather systems! I’m reminded how humans’ intelligence is a double edged sword, really: we create some technology that makes such intelligent action possible, yet at the same time we are living so recklessly with other technology, as to destroy our planet!
