Log: Swim Pacific

[DAY 23] Crashing waves

The situation started to deteriorate during the night, when I woke up we had over 30 knots winds. The waves were cresting and growing. I knew that if these conditions didn’t change I would not be able to swim. We waited a few hours but the forecast and the conditions didn’t improve, I was also getting seasick by the strong pitch and roll of the boat. I took some pills and laid down for the rest of the day. I tried to stay hydrated and to keep some food in my belly.

I went on deck to get some fresh air only dressed in a t-shirt, my boxers, and a life jacket. Maks was at the helm, he was totally wet and had a big smile on his face. He enjoyed sailing the boat up and down those big roller coaster waves, taking the stern for a dive and seeing the waves roll across the deck. I knew why he was all wet, but it was too late, one wave crushed against the port side and got me soaked…I got back below deck, dried myself and finished my day laying on the galley’s bench.
