48 Hours and Counting

Day 71

It is Wednesday, September 23 and Ben Lecomte is just two days from his final destination of Quiberon, France. When Ben alights on the shores of France, he will have completed more than 3,736 statute miles across the North Atlantic.

Ben jokes, “The water is getting colder so that must mean I’m getting closer!”

Due to the chilly temperature of the water, Ben is only swimming about six hours a day. He explains, “I need to swim in three hour blocks to keep my body temperature up. When I was doing four hours, in two hour blocks, I would start to cramp up whenever I took a break for water and protein drinks. The three-hour-blocks, twice-a-day system, though, is working very well.”

Ben will arrive at Port Maria, Quiberon, on the beach just south of the penninsula, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. France time (-6.0 hours USA eastern standard time).

Donations can be made to support Ben’s effort to raise awareness about cancer by sending checks to: Cross-Atlantic Swimming Challenge-AICR (an IRS recognized 501-C-3), 3005 South Lamar Blvd. – D-109-353, Austin, TX 78704-4785
