Log: Swim Pacific

[DAY 164] Back in the water

Today we had good weather condition, after towing our Newston net in the morning to collect micro plastic in our location, Ty and I got on the water. He was on Ban Ana, our yellow kayak and I was back in the water. This day was unique for Ty and I; it was the first time he paced me on the kayak and it was my first time back in the water since the decision was made to stop my swim across the Pacific.

The water was warmer than last time I swam. It felt odd to be swimming with a different mind set. Few days ago I focused on the distance I covered, pushing myself to cover as many miles as possible every day. But today I was an observer swimming to share my experience. The time I spent in the water and the distance I covered have little value in my new role.

And even though I swam only 5 hours, we still collected eight pieces of plastic debris, three of them were bottles.

What ever happens, what ever changes we make, one thing stay the same, I am always amazed at the amount of plastic we find in the ocean
