The winds had picked up and the air temperature was cooler this morning. Ty and James paced me on the dinghy. I wanted to try a change in food breaks. Every time I take one, my muscles are cooling down and with a cooler water temperature,over night it is harder to get back into my rhythm.
So I decided to have shorter food breaks and to take them every 2 hours.
At the end of the day, I was satisfied with the result and I will try this new approach another day before deciding if I am going to adopt it for good or not.
I also try to focus on ways to improve my average speed. Lowering my break time would help. They are only two other variables that I control, my speed and the number of hours I swim per day. If I decide to increase my speed or the number of hours, I am always concerned about how I can sustain it. Increasing my speed and the number of hours for one day and then being tired the following day is not the solution either. There is a balance to be found and every day it is different because of the weather conditions and how fast or slow I recoup overnight.
The bottom line for me is to put as much miles behind me as fast as possible.
